These briefing notes are designed to give an overview of the organisation of undergraduate teaching on the Engineering Tripos.  They should prove particularly useful to new staff and should be read alongside the various notes listed under the relevant section of the staff information index page.

Course overview

The two undergraduate courses run by the Department of Engineering are the Engineering Tripos and the Manufacturing Engineering Tripos: see the course overview for more information. The Undergraduate Teaching Office administers undergraduate teaching, with the Teaching Committee formally managing the Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering Tripos through various other committees.

The academic year in Cambridge

The Cambridge academic year consists of three terms, Michaelmas, Lent and Easter.  The key dates for teaching purposes are the dates of Full Term, which vary from year to year.  Although Full Term starts on a Tuesday, the 'weeks' of term (eight in Michaelmas and Lent, seven in Easter) start on a Thursday.

The timetables for the coming academic year are available as a (dense) pdf, and online calendars.
